This machine is great in an urban environment where noise is an issue. You just cant use a compressor in the subburbs so this machine has been great for me.
I am a small woman , so the size and wight of the machine are a pleasure.
It is fine for small to medium size work , and has a consistent smoothnes. If the work is big this is not the right machine.
Downside is that the handpiece can become hot in the hand , though it cools down fairly quickly .Not really for consistent all day use , but fine when combined with alternate hand tools etc.
Other downside is that it is not as flexible as air pressure generated machines because the flexible shaft must be kept more or less straightish [not too bent] while the motor is on. That means you cant move around the sculpture very much, but need to move the sculpture around to face the machine. This is fine for work that is not seriously heavy.
Oneday if I have a studio in an industrial zone I will upgrade to air generated pneumatic machine , but for now I feel lucky to have this machine in my studio at home. See my latest work on www.spiercontemporary2010.co.za - Jacky Lloyd
